Aboriginal Dot Paintings
Menų esė. Aboriginal Dot Paintings.
Nowadays dot paintings are, without a doubt, recognized worldwide as unique and essential to Australian Aboriginal art. Like the wildly used drawing technique of cross-hatching in Renaissance Europe or stencil art with its prehistoric origins, on the surface dot art is simply a style of Aboriginal painting. But that is just the first impression, the blur for your eyes. Not having a written language Aboriginal Australians camouflaged a world of secrecy and rituals in these dot paintings in order to save and preserve their culture for future generations.
“The dot” is what mainly Western eye sees in these modern acrylic paintings where Australian Aboriginal art may share "dots" with the late twentieth century Pointillism movement in Europe, but each has an important and very separate evolution story to tell.
