Be ignorant of the past is to remain a child

Anglų rašinys. To be ignorant of the past is to remain a child.

Today’s youth think less about our nation’s past, they don’t care what happened before their birth, and they just see what’s happening now. And if they start to think they don’t consider that it’s important for the present. I think the opposite, I realize that it’s significant, because it’s sort of starting point of our present actions. If we hadn’t had such a past, what we have, we wouldn’t be such a nation as we are. What had we achieved if we didn't know our past?

I think that we all know Martynas Mažvydas, the author of the first book written in Lithuanian, it’s “Catechism”. This book was rising in a whole Lithuanian literature. What would have happened, if he hadn’t written this book? Maybe without this first book, we might have never written or spoken in Lithuanian.
