Idiom is an expression whose meaning is not predictable from the usual meanings of its constituent elements. The discussion about idiomatic expressions is either on how to define them or how they can be presented into language in different situations.
The aim of this project is to determine English idioms in institutional register. This research was done using an ideas of two scholars: V. V. Vinogradov and A.V. Koonin. This work should introduce with idioms, their classification and institutional language.
This work consists of an introduction, two main sections, conclusions and a summary. In Section 1 there is an explanation of the term “idiom”, also its characteristic features, usage and differences between free word-groups and idioms. Moreover, there is an explanation how idioms are classified, according V. V. Vinogradov and A.V. Koonin and the term of institutional language. In the Section 2 there is the classification of English idioms used in institutional register and the method how it was done. And the conclusions sum up the most important points of this work.
