Proper names translation in children’s literature

The phenomenon of proper names translation in children’s literature has been discussed by both Lithuanian and foreign authors. Reluctantly, the phenomenon of proper names translation from English into Lithuanian has to be researched thoroughly.

The object of the course paper is cases of proper names translation in children’s literature.

The aim of this research is to investigate translation strategies of proper names and discuss cases of proper names translation from English into Lithuanian in children’s literature. To achieve this aim following tasks have to be performed:

1.to give a solid theoretical background for the analysis;

2.to collect anthroponyms from children’s literature in the English language and subdivided them in different types;

3.to find out which types of translation strategies are usually used to translate proper names in children’s literature;

4.to determine whether the Lithuanian translators tend to localize proper names or left them in their original version.

The course paper consists of: introduction, theoretical part and methodology, empirical analysis of proper names translation in children’s literature, conclusions, list of used literature.
