Senovės Graikija Ancient Greece

Menų esė. Ancient Greece. Classical Art and Modern Dress. Roman Games Playing with Animals. Apollonius, Boxer at Rest.

Clothing in sculpture and visual arts has not only esthetic appeal but the function too. Dress lures your attention to the body while covering it. By concealing the figure it also serves as the costume to be seen and enjoyed. By showing what parts of the body ought to be seen or made covered by draped veiling, clothing plays an important part in the story telling. Three Goddesses from east pediment of the Parthenon is a good example of the drapery in the Greek art from the classical and Hellenic periods with its clear reference point to the corsetless transparency of the female’s body. Beneath white, thin and wet- drapery you can clearly see their breasts and nipples stomachs and legs.
