The Thin Blue Line is British TV comedy series written by Ben Elton and shown from 1995 to 1996 on BCC. It is about police station life in fictional town Gasforth near London. One of the main themes is the competition between the uniformed team led by Inspector Fowler and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) commanded by Detective Inspector (DI) Grim. They frequently argue about similar or the same problems, but operate the contradictory methods. The other plot lines are concentrated about characters, their temper and relationships.
In the very first episode “The Queen’s Birthday Present” of the first season, the Queen’s birthday and Inspector Raymond C. Fowler and Sergeant Patricia Dawkins’ tenth anniversary approach at the same time. Inspector Fowler cares more about birthday and forgets about anniversary. Due to, he creates tension in his relationship with Sergeant Dawkins. Policeman Kevin Goody tries to get attention of policewoman Maggie Habib, but he fails and gets into ridiculous situations. Detective inspector Derek Grim wants to bring CID into a new century and invests in computers.
