St. John’s Eve in Lithuania
Anglų rašinys. St. John’s Eve in Lithuania.
St. John’s Eve takes place on the first month of summer – June 23. Lithuanian people celebrate this festival from the time they were pagans. Many years ago this holiday was called Dew Festival, but later when Lithuanians became Christians the festival became coherent with St. John’s birthday. However most of old traditions live on still nowadays.
Before the festival crowns of oaks leaves are weaved. Lops, wood, dried grass are stowed to a huge bonfire.
