This present paper theoretically examines the place of literature in the teaching process of English as a second language.
The aim of the present paper is to analyse the problems of learning the English Language through literary texts, to discuss students’ attitudes towards the texts, the challenges faced in reading these texts and the type of texts students prefer to read. It also discusses the teaching strategies used in class, their effectiveness as well as the methods favoured by students.
Hypothesis: teachers and students prefer learning the English Language through literary texts.
