Business cycles

Businesss cycles.

Modern industrial economies experience significant swings in economic activity. Those swings are called “business cyles” or “economic fluctuations”.

First of all lets analyse term “business cycle”. From first look “Cycle” seems to imply that there is some regularity in the timing and duration of upswings and downswings. As it may seem true because business cycle refers to recurring fluctuations in economic activity consisting of recession and recovery and growth and decline, it’s not entirely true because expansions and recessions occur at irregular intervals and last for varying lengths of time. So it’s not hard to understand why many economists prefer term “economic fluctuations” to “business cycle”.
