January events - 1991 In January, during which attempts were made to make a coup in Lithuania using the armed forces of the Soviet Union, the Internal Army of the Interior Ministry and the USSR State Security Committee (KGB) in order to restore the political power of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (NKPP) in the Republic of Lithuania.
