Language is a system of communication. It is a system which is inseparable part of human existence. The language people speak, hear or write leads them throughout their entire life. Performing the same function of communication, language varies from country to country, from community to community, from person to person, etc. Every single person uses different language. It may be similar to the other’s but never the same. The difference between used language styles is determined by the environment one lives in, hobbies, habits, surrounding people. Everyday language is strongly influenced by the television, new technologies, various written publications and other sources. Interacting with all these factors, people unconsciously affect the language they use.

The main aim of every book, advertisement, film, song, etc. is to make an impact on the listener, reader or watcher. The influence is achieved mainly by the peculiarities of language. Vocabulary and structure of the text depends on the audience it is intended to create for. Some texts are full of elaborate elements of language, while others are fulfilled with jargon, slang, vulgarisms. They are used to persuade, inform, affect, force to memorize, think, agree, etc. Since the source of the study is a screenplay, it is also have its peculiarities to deliver information and to persuade the reader, or film watcher. Fahrenheit 9/11, a documentary screenplay, which purpose is to give facts, to reveal certain ideas, etc. Screenplay is based on the facts it is full of dialogues, interviews, where various people are taking a role. For this reason the screenplay consists of various lexical and syntactical peculiarities.

To discuss the aspects of a screenplay in general, and Michael Moore’s screenplay Fahrenheit 9/11.

To disclose lexical and syntactical stylistic peculiarities.

To analyse the usage of stylistic devices in the above mentioned screenplay.

To deliver conclusions related to the analysis.

Relevance of the work. In linguistics, there are a number of linguists who explored the stylistic area, namely, D. Crystal and D. Davy (1974), I.R. Galperin (1981), P. Simpson (2004), Bradford (1997) and others. Mentioned linguist focused on the definition of style and stylistics, also the peculiarities of stylistic analysis. Russian linguist I.R. Galperin paid attention on the deeper analysis of stylistic classification of English vocabulary, the types of stylistic devices.

The novelty of the work is the stylistic analysis of the Michael Moore’s screenplay Fahrenheit 9/11.

Descriptive method allowed to present theoretical data concerning the theme.

The examples of the lexical and syntactical stylistic devices were selected from the screenplay Fahrenheit 9/11. The scope of the research is 396 sentences. 113 tokens were used in the study as illustrative examples.

1 table, 2 pie, 2 column charts, and 1tree diagram were used in the present study. Table was used to show the number of various contractions in the screenplay. One pie chart was used to illustrate the frequency of repetition, the other for all syntactic devices, 1 column chart was for illustration of interjections and the other for all lexical devices. Tree diagram provides the division of repetition.
