The temperature of incandescent bodies is measured by means of a disappearing-filament pyrometer. The temperature measuring is based on the matching of the colors and intensities of an incandescent body glow with those of the incandescent filament of the standard bulb. The pyrometer (Fig 32) consist of ocular 1 and objective 2, of bulb which circuit is fed by power source 4, of rheostat 5 and ammeter A. The scale of the ammeter is graduated not in current units, but in units of centigrade temperature. The glow of an investigated body and that of the incandescent filament of the standard bulb are matched by changing the resistance of the pyrometer circuit by means of rheostat 5.
