Today's society is increasingly faced with technological innovation. Technology development is gaining momentum. Once unimaginable technological marvels, such as radio, TV, computer, has become a reality. Today nobody is surprised anymore. Modern technology surpasses the expectations of society, for example, people can communicate on the internet, see someone in another side of the continent, choose and buy something they need from US without traveling there. Listen not only to his country radio, but also distant lands, watch television all over the world just by sitting at home. These are only few of technological advantages that our society increasingly adopts. The current society is constantly evolving, gaining information and knowledge. Information and knowledge are inseparable in nowadays. Gradually, the public enters into a new digital era. Any kind of information comes to society instantly.

The role of media in modern life is special. It becomes like another vital human needs (like air, food, sleep), which is hard to imagine our lives without - in the morning we read the newspapers, during the day - listen to the radio, in the evening - watching TV shows. Furthermore, we use the Internet regularly, and if we have some more time, we often start reading magazines. All this shows that the media content has the ability to influence our attitudes, values and even lifestyle. To paraphrase the famous Murphy's Law we can say that the media affects everyone - those who recognize that they are influenced by the media and those who do not recognize this influence. Relevance. Lithuania gradually prevailed electronic media. There are a growing number of new online publications that claim to meet the needs of certain users or trying to please everyone.

Over the past ten years, there is a new media type in Lithuania - Internet media. So far, attempts to describe identify certain parameters and norms, but it happens only in informal academic circle. The world is also trying to determine what the Internet media is, but the definition is quite controversial. Everyone who knows how to publish certain information or simply how to group it in certain is assigned to the category of online media. This contrasts with the traditional understanding of the concept of publications that is why at the moment there are so many debates about ratio of traditional and online media. The Internet opens up possibilities for alternatives.

If it is said that the media should always be opposition to the government, so online media, if it want to be popular, should be in opposition to the media, that those who are dissatisfied with television and newspapers, seek information and interpretations of the news portals. However, we can see the risk immediately. This alternative knowledge related to the rumors mechanism. Rumors are also semi-official information. And the internet is perfect place for rumors.

Anyone can create their own web sites and place there any kind of information about other people. Let's say that in the West there is such a site, which readers are asked to send information if they saw the pop star somewhere in the public.
