According “Traffic – the movement of vehicles, ships, persons etc., in an area, along a street, through an air line, over a water route“. And “Transport – the act of transporting or conveying; conveyance; a system of public transport“(“Transport“ [] n.d.). As I see, those two terms can be synonyms for each other, however, there is a difference between traffic and transport definitions. For me, traffic is like a system that covers everything: transportation, vehicles, routes and so on. Transport means movements of goods or passengers. From this I can go to conclusion that traffic in more wide term that transport even if they can be synonyms in many situations.

When we need to decide which mode of transport is most suitable, we need to take into account for few specifications:

Economical requirements – the fastest and the cheapest way. For long distances we will chose water transport, for short distances – road and railway transport.

Cargos specifications or freight flows. For example, for gas the best option is pipelines, for thermo products – fridges (road transport), etc.

Geographical position – we should look at relief, water spots (rivers without bridges).

Influence for environment and people living around. Pollution and tumult should be discussed.

Risk – accidents possibility. The safest modality: air ways, railways. The biggest possibility for accidents: roadways transport.

For example, if I want transport bananas: the first modality would be water transport because I want transport big amount of bananas and after that I would chose road way transport to split my freight to smaller parts and deliver them to distributors.

Operating and service characteristics of air transport have a real affect for its cost, performance and passengers or goods moved. Let’s talk about the freight tickets, sometimes freights cost from one country to another and back can have quite big difference, why is that? It depends from the airlines company, intermediaries, season when you are flying and so on. So how do the ticket cost consist? It sums up everything: various fees, cabin crew, services, aircraft conditions, etc. Of course, the price can affect the number of goods or passengers transported. A lot of people who are planning to take a flight are searching for the cheapest ways so probably they will chose low-cost airlines (Ryanai, Wizzair). Thus, in some cases there is no direct routes from one place to another, so passengers must change the aircrafts and goods must be transshipped. This also has influence for airway transportation. (Aukštuolis, G. “Nuomonė: kiek iš tiesų kainuoja lėktuvo bilietas?“, 2008)

Railways transport conditions are considerably good in Europe for both: good and passengers. Big amounts of good can be transported by rail very fast as well as the passengers. It is very good to know that almost in all Europe there is good discounts system for passengers. People can have 10-20 percent or more off price with students ID, disabilities certificates, discounts for youngsters, groups and so on. This reason affects the number of passengers traveling by train and also for big companies that carry big cargos it is also very good option to ship goods on fast and cheap way. However, sometimes there can be some problems with train stations that are located just in one main spot in the bigger cities.
