Nowadays emigration is one of the most important things in Lithuania because every year more and more people emigrate. There are lots of factors that influence people to emigrate. Most of them are economical and social ones, but also there are cultural, personal, political and other factors.
Emigration can cause lots of consequences: changes in demography, changes in economic and social fields, brain drain, increase in shadow economy, threat to countries culture disappearance and lots of more.
In this project I am going to review the theory of migration and also all possible factors that influence people to emigrate. Also I will analyze what kind of consequences it causes. Moreover, using regression analysis and statistical data of 2000-2017, I am going to calculate what makes the biggest impact on emigration and how these factors affect it. Therefore, since decision to emigrate is influences not only by conditions in the country, but also by conditions in arrival country, I am going to compare some Lithuanian indicators with other EU countries.
Methodology. In the project the following methods are used: analysis of documents (various statistical publications and sources) and other literature (periodicals, books, online sources, informative leaflets). Also regression analysis and comparative analysis.
Emigration it is when people move from one country to other for a long time period. Emigrant is a person who moved out to foreign country by one's own volition. Only those people who have officially notified their departure from the country are considered to be emigrants.
The main reasons for emigration are political and economic. But sometimes people emigrate after finding their life partners in foreign country or after retirement they move to warmer countries because of the better living conditions for their health. However, the biggies group of emigrants is youth and most of the time they migrate because of the higher wages.
There are lots of negative consequences of emigration like changes in the demographic situation (a decrease in the working age population, a decrease in productivity, social system problems due to the withdrawal of taxpayers), loss of investment in a person, a sharp rise in wages in some sectors, the need for qualified specialists. The country loses not only taxpayers during the migration bus also citizens, who determine the political destiny of the country because they do not vote during the elections of the government. Migration weakens the middle class of society which is already weak and without strong middle class sector of society country cannot have stable, advanced and strong democracy.
