Sexual abuse

Sexual abuse.

Sexual abuse is an offense committed by a person who has or is believed to have outhority over the person who is vulnerable. The official figures that only 10% of sexual crimes are reported to the police and less than 1% result in a criminal conviction. Since such a small percentage of sexual assaulters end up in the criminal justice system, one must ask how representative they are of the total sample. The consequences of sexual assault on both male and female victims include physical injury, sexually transmitted infections and psychological trauma. Community treatment programmes began to appear in Britain in the late 1980s, major statutory agencies such as the probotion service and the prison service are now significantly involved in treating.
