During the soviet occupation period, the development of the Lithuanian tourism system was prevented by a high number of factors such as political, economical, social, ideological, and cultural. During the years of post-soviet transformation, tourism system in Lithuania was being organised by overtaking and partially imitating the examples of other countries around Europe. As a result, the later incorporation into the European Union in the year 2004 has not made any substantial changes in the tourism system.
